Our Club

Located in Wilson Cove, and protected by Sheffield Island, Tavern Island, and Bell Island, Norwalk Yacht Club is a casual and family-oriented sailing club. Established in 1894, the Club is well known for a highly regarded junior sailing program, an active adult sailing program, and a long tradition of racing and cruising. The Club features a newly renovated clubhouse and well protected mooring field with launch service. In commissioned season, from May to October, the Club operates a full calendar of racing and social events for its members.

Handicap big boat racing takes place on Wednesday evenings and many weekends. Adult sailing in Ideal 18s occurs several times each week, and an active junior sailing program is carried out in a multiple of sailing classes. The junior program has produced many fine racers who have gone on to success in college sailing and beyond. There is also an annual Club cruise. Some of the popular social activities for members include weekly Friday night grill nights, the Commodore's Bash, Fourth of July and Labor Day parties as well as weekly Sunday coffees during the winter frostbite racing season. The Club can be hailed on VHF channel 78A.

While generally relaxed, the Club prides itself on the customs and traditions of proper flag etiquette. Members come to attention when the national colors are raised at 0800 hours each morning and when lowered at sunset. Members can always tell when a flag officer is "on deck" by checking for the appropriate flag. This combination of history and tradition, with modern sensibilities regarding yacht club life, make Norwalk Yacht Club an enduring value and attractive choice for a leisure lifestyle.
